Being & Time
The Emergence of Video Projection
Being & Time: The Emergence of Video Projection highlights the formal and expressive potential of projected video with the work of six internationally acclaimed artists. With its flexible scale and format, projected video moves beyond the confines of a monitor screen, often filling an entire room with moving images. Like film, projected video can create an environment that provides an aesthetic experience similar to monumental painting with the added dimension of time and often sound. The six artists in the exhibition use video to achieve a variety of effects and moods, ranging from the psychological to the political. Artists include: Willie Doherty, Gary Hill, Bruce Nauman, Tony Oursler, Diana Thater, Bill Viola. This exhibiton was organized by Marc Mayer at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York, [September 21 – December 1, 1996] and was presented at SITE Santa Fe November 1, 1997 – January 25, 1998.
