Art and travel form a bond as the biennial phenomenon of the last decade continues its expansion worldwide, placing SITE Santa Fe’s Intrnational Biennial in a key position on the contemporary art circuit.
Our 2007 Gala, Destination: SITE celebrates our spot on the global art map with a fabulous evening honoring SITE Biennial curators and distinguished artists as our special guests.
Chef Flynt Payne of Auberge Resorts is creating the dinner menu, Terry Allen and The Panhandle Mystery Band are cooking up some special entertainment, Jamie Niven of Sotheby’s is presiding over the auction of luxury art related travel.
Auction packages feature trips to New York City, Los Angeles, Dallas, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Beijing, Chicago, Austin, Santa Fe and Marfa. Winning bidders can look forward to private tours of museum exhibitions and prominent individual collections, stays at luxury hotels, exquisite meals, and other extravagant treats.
NetJets has generously donated a day trip for 7 people to Marfa on a Citation Excel, and accommodations have been generously donated by such excellent hotels as The Mansion at Turtle Creek in Dallas, Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, The Carlyle in NYC, The Park Hyatt in Chicago, The Lake Austin Spa and Resort and the spectacular Raffles Beijing Hotel. Dining adventures include Nobu in Los Angeles, The Modern in NY and Kenichi in Austin. And fabulous one-of-a-kind fashion accessories and goodies have been donated by J. Mendel, Kazuko, Neiman Marcus and deGrisogono Jewelers.
To round out our Gala weekend, SITE will offer an insider’s view of life on the global biennial circuit and its impact on the making and presentation of art during a roundtable discussion with SITE’s Biennial curators and artists. Art on the Global Stage will be a discussion of contemporary art as it interfaces with the shifting function of biennials, the influence of art fairs, and the state of the world. This lively, informal talk will take place at the newly renovated James A. Little Theater at the New Mexico School for the Deaf on Saturday afternoon, July 14.
