Museum Departments

The following are brief descriptions of the departments that offer internships. Please list your departmental choices on the space provided on the application form. If you are accepted we cannot guarantee that you will be placed in the department of your choice.

Development and Public Relations/Marketing:

The Development and PR/Marketing department focuses its energies on fundraising, marketing, and promotion. This six-member team is responsible for raising nearly $2 million annually through museum memberships, individual donations, foundation and corporate giving, and benefit events. We employ a variety of marketing and promotional tools to ensure international, national, and local visibility for SITE Santa Fe including the management of an organizational website, media outreach, and the design, production and distribution of print materials.

An intern working with the Development and PR/Marketing department will provide critical support on a variety of special events, fundraising, and promotional projects, giving the intern in-depth knowledge and experience in this important area of non-profit arts management.

Education and Public Programs:

The goal of SITE Santa Fe’s Education and Public Programs department is to make contemporary art accessible to a wide range of audiences. In order to bring greater understanding of our exhibitions of contemporary art to adults and young people, SITE presents a broad scope of public programs. These include lectures, panel discussions, dialogues, and performances with well-known artists, poets, and musicians. Education programs include exhibition tours with SITE Guides, outreach workshops in the public schools and collaborations with youth-oriented service organizations.

An intern working with the Education and Public Programs department will obtain hands-on experience in working directly with a wide variety of groups. Additionally, the intern will assist in the design and implementation of education and outreach programs.

Exhibitions and Operations:

SITE Santa Fe provides year-round exhibitions of cutting-edge contemporary art with regional, national, and international significance. Envisioned as an art exhibition space similar to the European kunsthalle, SITE originates and organizes exhibitions and is a major venue for national and international traveling exhibitions. Although SITE offers exhibitions year-round, its international biennial is a major priority. SITE Santa Fe’s Seventh International Biennial, Lucky Number 7, runs June 20, 2008 – January 4, 2009, and is curated by Lance Fung.

An internship with the Exhibitions and Operations department would involve working directly with the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager, the Thaw Curatorial Fellow, preparators, curators, and artists. Areas of emphasis would include operation of the facility, exhibition maintenance, registrarial duties, installation of exhibitions, assistance with planning for upcoming exhibitions, packing and shipping of artworks, researching artists, exhibits and other art institutions, and maintaining exhibition archives.
