Take
It Back is about teens' personal experience with the power of creative
expression. What is the nature of power, its source, and the effect it has
on the world? What happens when you place no trust in those deemed powerful
by society? Do youth lose faith in the system, or does the system lose faith
in the youth? From February to April 2003, four local artists visited groups
of teens in Santa Fe and Española to investigate these questions. This
exhibition is the visual product of their exploration.
Take
it Back is a collaboration between: the SITE Santa Fe Young Curators;
David Lesch and Sam Leyba who worked with Outside In Youth with Promise Program,
El Museo Cultural, Casa Su Vida, Intermountain Youth Center, The Santa Fe
Boys and Girls Club and the Rio Arriba First Judicial Drug Court; artists
Erin Forest and Jon Carver with Youth Shelters and Family Services, the Street
Outreach program and the Juvenile Community Corrections program; and Chrissy
Orr with Hands Across Cultures. |
