Paul Getty Center in Los Angeles; and a terrazzo floor for the Schottenstein Sports Arena at Ohio State University in Columbus, among others. Smith earned her BA at the University of California -- Irvine. She has received two National Endowment for the Arts awards and a residency at The Rockefeller Foundation Study Center. Smith has had solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Boca Raton, and Aspen, and is represented by Margo Leavin Gallery in Los Angeles, and by ArtemisáGreenberg Van DorenáGallery in New York. She has lectured and taught at the University of Hawaii, The J. Paul Getty Center, University of California -- Los Angeles, and Carnegie Mellon University.

Alexis Smith is a participating artist in SITE Santa Fe's Fourth International Biennial, Beau Monde: Toward a Redeemed Cosmopolitanism. Her work, Red Carpet (2001), is a large-scale installation commissioned by SITE Santa Fe. SITE Santa Fe's Fourth International Biennial Beau Monde: Toward a Redeemed Cosmopolitanism, curated by Dave Hickey, is on exhibit through January 6, 2002.

Alexis Smith has generously created Serape Repeat (2001, silkscreen on rag paper, 19 x 50 inches), a limited edition print for sale to benefit SITE Santa Fe. The print references her SITE Santa Fe installation, including an image of a large multicolored carpet with text above that reads: NOTHING IS NEW EXCEPT WHAT HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN. The work will be on view November 30, and collectors can purchase a print for $3,000 while the edition of 20 lasts.

SITE Santa Fe's Art & Culture series is partially supported by The Brown Foundation, Inc., Houston, Lannan Foundation, Madelin Coit and Alan Levin, Bobbie Foshay-Miller and Chuck Miller, and Marlene Nathan Meyerson.
