SITE SANTA FE TO HOLD ITS FIRST-EVER
BENEFIT ART AUCTION: AUCTION SITE

JULY 12, 2003

Santa Fe, NM -- On July 12, 2003, SITE Santa Fe will hold AUCTION SITE: The 2003 Summer Benefit Auction, its first-ever art auction. Thirty-five internationally recognized, contemporary artists are participating in the event, which will have both live and silent auction components. Artists include Josef Albers, Linda Besemer, Sarah Charlesworth, Gregory Crewdson, Karin Davie, Thomas Demand, Teresita Fernández, Pia Fries, Andy Goldsworthy, Ann Hamilton, Mona Hatoum, Jim Hodges, Jenny Holzer, Ellsworth Kelly, Agnes Martin, Tracey Moffatt, Shirin Neshat, Ernesto Neto, Nic Nicosia, Roxy Paine, Jack Pierson, Alan Rath, David Reed, Pipilotti Rist, Ed Ruscha, Tom Sachs, Paul Sarkisian, Peter Sarkisian, Gary Simmons, Valeska Soares, Robert Therrien, Fred Tomaselli & Rick Moody, Spencer Tunick, and Kara Walker.

Sotheby's has taken a leadership role as Auction Sponsor for the event, and Jamie Niven will serve as auctioneer. Proceeds from the event will help support SITE Santa Fe's 2003 programs and exhibitions, and will contribute to the ongoing campaign to match the prestigious Ford Foundation Challenge Grant, the funds from which will grow SITE Santa Fe's endowment.

The weekend will kick off on Friday, July 11 with a public preview from 10 am to 4 pm. A private preview for benefit auction ticket holders will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm. On Saturday, July 12, ticket holders will have the chance to view the works at a second private preview from 10 am to 12 noon. The main event will begin at 5 pm with a Champagne and Caviar Preview Reception during which ticket holders will be able to bid on works in the silent auction and preview art in the live auction. The live auction will begin at 7 pm, and will include approximately 19 works by leading contemporary artists. Afterward, a dinner will be held at a private home for successful bidders, participating artists, and Sponsor Ticket holders.

The weekend promises to be a highlight of the lively Santa Fe summer social season, and the auction is expected to draw many important contemporary art collectors, a large number of whom own homes in Santa Fe. The date coincides with both the summer vacation season in Santa Fe and the biannual Santa Fe Art Fair--which will also draw major international collectors to town.

Tickets are $500 and $250. For more information or tickets, please contact SITE Santa Fe at 505-989-1199 or purchase online. Click here to see the online catalogue.
