Spring 2002 Exhibition:
#@!$*@ (A SHOW OF COMIX)

June 6 to June 28, 2002

Santa Fe, New Mexico --- SITE Santa Fe's Young Curators in collaboration with the Santa Fe Art Institute proudly presents the work of young artists in an exhibition entitled #@!$*@ (A Show of Comix). The exhibition will be on view at the Santa Fe Art Institute at the College of Santa Fe. The opening reception will be held on June 6, 2002 from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will run through June 28, 2002.

#@!$*@ (A Show of Comix ) will present the work of six young artists from Santa Fe, Arizona, and Massachusetts. The work consists of comic strips and comic books, as well as work inspired by comics. The show features Liz Prince, Gabriel Forest Melcher, Thonah Ep, Nancy Lupo, Elizabeth Sobel and Lisa Beyer. Set in the lounge of the Santa Fe Art Institute, the atmosphere of reading your daily comics in the newspaper will be devised. The creative new reading material will include comic strips which use local Santa Fe teens as characters and four complete issues of The Crusades of Horsefly, an original comic book series complete with advertisements and subscription information. The format of the comics range from colored pencil on paper to mixed media panels of illustrations and text.

The Young Curators program was organized by Chris Nail, the Education Coordinator for SITE Santa Fe, in August of 1999. #@!$*@ (A Show of Comix ) is the seventh exhibition organized by the program. The group includes 12 teenagers from public and private schools around Santa Fe. The focus of the program is to teach museum practices and the curatorial process through first hand experience, and to expose the general public to the many talented young artists living in the Santa Fe/Albuquerque area.
