SITE SANTA FE ANNOUNCES THE DEPARTURE OF DIRECTOR LOUIS GRACHOS TO BECOME DIRECTOR OF THE ALBRIGHT-KNOX ART GALLERY IN BUFFALO, NEW YORK

Santa Fe, NM --SITE Santa Fe announces the departure of Louis Grachos, director, who has been appointed director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York, effective January 21, 2003. He will replace Douglas G. Schultz, who is retiring after 30 years of service to Albright-Knox, 19 of them as director. Bobbie Foshay-Miller, president of the Board of Directors of SITE Santa Fe, said today, "As everyone in Santa Fe is aware, Louis has created the SITE Santa Fe we know and admire. It is due to Louis's leadership that SITE Santa Fe is now a cultural leader in the community and a nationally and internationally renowned contemporary art organization. I know he will continue his successful work at the Albright-Knox."

Grachos has served as the director of SITE Santa Fe for 6 _ years, and under his leadership, SITE Santa Fe has organized over 50 exhibitions, three international biennials, hundreds of programs, special events, and educational outreach initiatives, and received the extraordinary distinction of being one of only 28 cultural organizations from around the country to receive a $1 million New Directions/New Donors matching grant from The Ford Foundation.

Foshay-Miller further noted, "The Board of Directors and the staff of SITE Santa Fe and their many friends will miss Louis, his wife Ann Kippen, and his son James very much, and wish them well in their move to Buffalo. We thank them for their countless contributions to Santa Fe."

The search for a successor will begin immediately. A search committee has been formed, and, along with the Board of Directors, it will identify a worthy successor to continue the leadership of the organization. Cathy Putnam, now Associate Director, will serve as Interim Director. Foshay-Miller concluded, "We are in very able hands and therefore assured of a seamless transition."

SITE Santa Fe is located at 1606 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Exhibition hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm; Friday, 10:00 am -7:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for students and seniors; members are free. Free admission is offered on Fridays, made possible by a grant from The Brown Foundation, Inc., Houston. Free guided tours are offered on Fridays at 6:00 pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tours in Spanish are by appointment. SITE Santa Fe gift certificates are available.
