ERNESTO NETO EXHIBITION OPENS at SITE Santa Fe
Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA - SITE Santa Fe is excited to present an exhibition by ERNESTO NETO, which opens Saturday, April 1, 2000 with a free public reception from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and continues through Sunday, May 28, 2000. Neto will give a gallery talk on Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. The ERNESTO NETO exhibition is organized by SITE Santa Fe and curated by Louis Grachos, the director & curator of SITE Santa Fe. A small catalogue that documents the exhibition will be published. Concurrently, SITE Santa Fe presents ANDY GOLDSWORTHY in an exhibition featuring all new work inspired by his residency in Galisteo, New Mexico.

Ernesto Neto's body of art can easily be associated with the traditions of other well-known Brazilian artists, Lygia Clark and Hélio Oiticica. The viewer becomes the participant in his large, room-filled pieces. To create an experience of sensorial body-consciousness, Neto manipulates space, light, sound, smell and texture, using only modest materials such as nylons, spices, and sand to do so. Neto will also be creating a major new work for his exhibition at SITE Santa Fe and showing a series of photos complementing the exhibition.

Born and based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ernesto Neto has recently participated in both the XI Biennial in Sydney, Australia and the XXIV Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, Brasil. Neto has had many solo exhibitions, including the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in New York City and the Galeria Camargo Vilaça, São Paulo, Brazil in 1997. He will show as part of the Directions program at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC in 2001.
