Sarah Charlesworth: A Retrospective
PAST
02 NOV 1997 / 26 JAN 1998
This 20-year survey provides an opportunity to examine and understand Sarah Charlesworth’s evolution as an artist. She has employed photography both as a subject matter and as a medium. Charlesworth’s explorations are rich and varied, yet coherent in their concerns and her approach. Her work reveals ways in which photography informs our consciousness in modern culture. The exhibition brings together outstanding works from each of her major series and explores the infrastructure that links these bodies of work. The viewer focuses their attention of the relationships among her works, rather than an encyclopedic or chronological approach, thus highlighting the existing interplay of ideas.
