SURVIVA Book Launch and Conversation: Cannupa Hanska Luger and Sterlin Harjo

SURVIVA: A Future Ancestral Field Guide is the debut book by award-winning multidisciplinary artist Cannupa Hanska Luger. Blending visual art, speculative fiction, and Indigenous poetry, SURVIVA is a genre-defying field guide for the future.

SITE SANTA FE will celebrate the book launch by hosting a special conversation between the author and filmmaker Sterlin Harjo, moderated by curator Brandee Caoba. They will delve into the themes explored in the book and expand into broader reflections on 21st-century Indigeneity. The discussion will be followed by a book signing.

The conversation will be rebroadcast on The Long Con podcast and marks the official launch of the Broken Boxes podcast series on its own dedicated platform.

About the Book

SURVIVA: A Future Ancestral Field Guide is a genre-defying publication inspired by 1970s U.S. military survival manuals. Cannupa Hanska Luger uses poetic redaction, iterative line drawing, and speculative reimagining to present “an earth-based, demilitarized futuredream that foregrounds Indigenous knowledge as critical to humanity’s survival.”

Released September 2, 2025, SURVIVA is published by Aora Books, a new imprint dedicated to artist-led publishing.
