R. Luke DuBois

Billboard Project

In connection with R. Luke DuBois: A More Perfect Union, SITE SANTA FE presented three large-scale reproductions of selections from Hindsight is Always 20/20 on our exterior billboards.

Exploring democracy, elections, politics, and demographics, Hindsight is Always 20/20 (2008) is a series of linguistic portraits of 41 US presidents, organizing their most frequently used words in State of the Union addresses into the descending format of the Snellen eye chart. Showing the top 66 words of each American presidents’ State of the Union addresses from George Washington through George W. Bush, these graphic charts reflect the themes, ideals, language, and topics of their age and express American history through political rhetoric.
